Rauw Alejandro
Despacito A song performed by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi together with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It became the number streamed song at that in just six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music not only brought interest back to the genre, but also to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish mainly, and four others in 2016. At the peak of Despacito's success in 2017, 19 songs that were mainly in Spanish hit at the very top of 100. It climbed to 41 in 2020. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix from Despacito (2017) the most well-known musicians soon began collaborating on reggaeton tracks, like Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna and Maluma in Medellin (2019). Reggaeton's most prominent performers lamented the trend towards popular music coming into 2020. Yet a new group, Rauw alejandro, was looking to change things up. It often blended elements from electronic dance music as well as other styles.
